We operate a peer-to-peer model that promotes exchanges rather than new purchases. This means that we are building a community of trusted fashionistas (Xchangers as we call us here) who rent out or resell their idle fashion items to other community members who need them either for keeps or for a one-time event. This makes fashion consumption even more interesting, accessible, and sustainable. Extending the use of your idle fashion items through repairs, rental or resale can reduce the environmental impact caused by entirely new production.

Imagine over 50 million Nigerian fashion-forward women and men, who attend the thousands of parties hosted across the country every day, featuring flamboyant rich cultural costumes, dresses, and accessories, often used once or twice, and then stays idle in closets for years unending. Let’s also imagine that red-carpet events, movie premieres, dinner parties, photoshoots, etc, often need fashion for one-time use. These items can be rented or resold, thereby becoming another income stream for the owners. On the other hand, renters and new buyers can save costs while accessing a variety of their dream fashion items when they want. Essentially, people can build new fashion businesses using their idle fashion, while others can save the cost of buying new items for one-time events.

We encourage our Xchangers to use re-usable bags during the shipment process. Our own brand packaging (for items that leave directly from our offices) is made from ecofriendly materials, recycled plastic, and recycled paper, and is reusable..

We strive to use ecofriendly delivery channels which is still a big challenge with this circular fashion model. We will at least reduce the impact of frequent and distant transportation by fostering transactions between small communities using the peer-to-peer model which allows rentals and deliveries occur near the Xchangers’ locations. However, in the future, we look forward to working with a carbon-neutral and environmentally friendly courier partner to fulfil our orders in the safest and timely manner.
